580 While approaching a parked car the door swung open into my path, and the collision threw me onto the road. 389 I was cycling westward on Woodside Rd when a driver in an SUV heading north on Henley Rd nearly failed to give-way to me as it entered the roundabout. I was able to prevent the driver hitting me by veering to my right and in conjunction with the driver finally seeing me at the last second and bringing their vehicle to an emergency stop. Please note conditions were clear, there is minimal visibility issues on that portion of the roundabout and I had 3x high quality, fully functioning strobe lights running (one on my helmet, one on my handlebars and one on my seat post). The driver appeared to be approaching the roundabout with too much speed and there are zero speed calming measures on the SUV side of the roundabout.

454 I was on a bike, crossing Customhouse Quay & Jervois Quay from the waterfront to Waring Taylor St. I was crossing during a pedestrian phase. I had crossed Customhouse Quay and was in the middle about to cross Jervois Quay (they are on a single crossing light). A large 4wd vehicle driving north on Jervois Quay ran through the red light. I saw the vehicle coming through the red light and stayed in the middle zone rather than continuing to cross Jervois Quay. The driver saw me as he was already crossing the intersection, and stopped suddenly in the middle of the intersection. If I had continued cycling, he probably would have hit me (head on to his vehicle, on the side of my bike). He gave me an apologetic wave. He was driving a large grey 4wd ute, with a distinctive number plate made up only of letters. 646 On 29th January, about 5pm, a car driver cut the corner descending on Ohiro Road, just before the turnoff to Brooklyn Road, forcing me over the curb and off my ebike, resulting in severe bruising on my upper right thigh (where the bike frame fell on my leg) and the loss of a hunk of skin from my right elbow.

The driver had passed me a few seconds before, and did not stop after the incident. He had clearly seen me when he drew up alongside me, but appeared unaware of what he did to me. Three drivers waiting on the uphill side of Ohiro Road left their cars to ask me if I was ok, stating that they had seen the whole incident. Unfortunately, I didnt ask them for their details, or whether they had noted the license number of the car. I returned home and was driven to the after hours surgery.

My bruise is slowly subsiding, and my elbow is regrowing the skin, with regular changes of bandages.

This is a dangerous corner. A pedestrian island has been provided. Descending vehicles are often travelling too fast and will cut the corner to avoid going on the other side of Ohiro road and hitting upcoming traffic.

I propose that Council make a safety review of the Brooklyn/Ohiro Raod corner, and consider placing a sign just below the crest of ohiro road on the western side with wording something along the lines - “Slow down, watch for cyclists”. The 30km/hr speed limit close to Brooklyn shops should also be extended until after Brooklyn road is reached.

I possibly could have avoided the accident by giving appropriate hand signals and taking the lane for that section of Ohiro road prior to the corner, or slowing right down to let the car get ahead of me when it drew up alongside me. However, this is in hindsight, and there may be some other measures such as I suggested above that will help avoid future accidents.

Thus I am requesting that a safety review be carried out of the Ohiro/Brooklyn road intersection.

Car was travelling North along the one way st of Cumberland St and was turning right into St Andrew St. There are lights at this intersection to stop cars for cyclists but cars more often than not ignore it and cut the cyclists off. 291 Bus driver of 35 bus was leaving Courtney Place, and heading to turn off to Elizabeth Street via Kent Terrace. He left Courtney Place from the right lane (as less traffic than the left lane - I assume so he could speed through the yellow lights at the last minute). He then immediately proceeded to cross two of the 3 lanes over to 14 Kent Terrace, where I was biking in the lane, nearest the parked cars. Without looking he continued to move across to the lane closest to the parked cars, wedging me between them and the side of the bus - he was so close that there was around 10 cm space between my bike and the side of his bus. It was only for my taking evasive braking action that I was not killed.
